This course provides an in-depth study of immunologic principles as applied to transfusion medicine. Emphasis is placed on antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing, and the interpretation of laboratory results to ensure safe transfusion practices. Students will explore blood bank automation, direct antiglobulin testing, transfusion reactions, and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn. Laboratory skills are reinforced with practical exercises and clinical case correlations to integrate immunologic theory with real-world patient care.
