MLS 208: Clinical Immunology & Immunohematology I with Lab

This course introduces fundamental principles of immunology followed by an applicated of these concepts to immunohematology. The first portion of the course focuses on the immune system, including innate and adaptive immunity, antigen-antibody interactions, hypersensitivity reactions, and basic immunologic techniques. The second portion applies immunologic principles to blood banking practices, including red blood cell antigens and antibodies, ABO and Rh systems, and other blood group systems. Emphasis is placed on the correlation between immunologic theory and laboratory practice.
