This course provides an overview of medical laboratory professionals and its role in healthcare. Students are introduced to functions of clinical laboratories, basic lab safety, fundamental laboratory techniques, and quality assurance. Topics include an introduction to major laboratory departments, specimen collection and handling, laboratory math, basic laboratory equipment, and professional ethics. Emphasis is placed on the responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Technician and the importance of accurate results in patient care.
